Gas talks fail

KATHMANDU: Talks held between the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and the LPG producers’ association on Wednesday to effect smooth supply of cooking gas ended inconclusively. Following the talks, a discussion was held between representatives of the association and the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Rajendra Mahato. — RSS

Plea to free detainees

HETAUDA: The Peace Agreement Monitoring Committee, Makwanpur, has urged Maoists to release everyone in their custody in Harnamadi VDC of Makwanpur. Coordinator of the committee Tej Bahadur Godar, in a statement on Wednesday, urged the Maoists to release all the nine persons they had seized on charges of involvement in criminal activities. — HNS

Doctor kidnapped

Rajbiraj: An unidentified armed group kidnapped Dr Murali Prasad Singh of Rajbiraj municipality-9 on Tuesday, family sources said on Wednesday. Dr Singh was returning to his residence from his clinic at Rajbiraj-8 when he was kidnapped. Singh’s car was found deserted near Khado River at Biraul of Saptari, the family sources said. Police have arrested two activists of the Jay Krishna Goit-led JTMM, DSP Yamuna Rajak said. The police have suspected JT-MM men’s hand in the incident. — HNS

Baglung bazaar shut

BAGLUNG: Relatives of a four-year-old, who had gone missing on Monday, closed down Baglung bazaar after the child was found dead on Wednesday morning. Jharana KC, the daughter of an assistant nurse midwife in Baglung Hospital, Dil Maya KC, had gone missing from the hospital premises, family sources said. Jharana’s body was found in the septic tank of the hospital, police said. — HNS

HURPES’ plea

KATHMANDU: The Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) on Wednesday urged the political parties and members of the civil society to refrain from burning tyres during demonstrations. The rights organisation appealed to all not to obstruct constituent assembly polls. — HNS
