Kathmandu, May 9:
The victims of Maoist atrocities today staged a sit-in in front of the Indian embassy here, demanding involvement of India in solving the problems of the internally displaced people.
They also handed over a memorandum to the embassy. They urged the embassy to ask the government to take initiative to address their problems. The demonstrators squatted in front of the embassy for an hour that disrupted vehicular movement in the area.
“We have no option but to request the neighbours and international community to convince the government,” said Bhojraj Timilsina, coordinator of the National Struggle Committee of the Victims of Maoist Atrocities. He accused the government of not taking the problems of the displaced seriously.
“The government should create environment so that we can return home, or India should give us asylum,” said Kalyan Budhathoki, central member of the committee.
He said the Maoist victims will stage a sit-in in front of the American Embassy on May 11, UN on May 14 and the OHCHR on May 21.
