Another bird flu death

JAKARTA: An Indonesian girl died of bird flu after coming into contact with an infected chicken, bringing the national death toll from the H5N1 virus to 79. The 15-year-old girl died on Tuesday after being hospitalised for two days in the city of Semarang on central Java island. — AP

Walnut ‘Viagra’

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian researchers claim they have created a nutty alternative to Viagra based on walnuts. It took Kim Kah Hwi, who headed the team of researchers from the the University of Malaya, two years to develop “N-Hanz”, tablets which contain walnut extract and have shown positive results on 40 volunteers against erectile dysfunction, the Star daily reported on Sunday. — AFP

Tree planting record

Thiruvananthapuram: Students from more than 5,000 schools in India’s southwestern coastal state of Kerala will plant 2.5 million saplings on World Environment Day, officials said on Sunday. The “My Tree” project will be the world’s biggest of its kind, the government said, ahead of the United Nations-sponsored day on Tuesday. The schools will also form panels to nurture the plants and monitor their progress. — AFP
