Project work resumes
LAMJUNG: Work on the Mid-Marsyangdi Hydroelectricity Project, which had come to a halt due to a strike called by agitating locals of Bhoteodar, resumed on Saturday. Urging the government to build a bridge on the Bhoteodar-Beldhari road section, the locals had been
barring the vehicles belonging to the project from plying the road section since last Saturday. “We have called off our agitation because the government has assured to meet our demand,” Sharad Shrestha of the Bridge Construction Struggle Committee said. — HNS
Malaria in Susta
NAWALPARASI: Five persons were detected with malaria during a health check-up at Susta of Triveni Susta VDC on Saturday. Assistant health worker at the Triveni sub-health post Indra Bahadur Mahato identified the malaria patients as Sarbajeet Kurmi, 80, Sadaru Nesa, 25, Lakhapati Pasi, 12, Puja Jaiswal, 7, and Dilip Yadav, 6. Of the five malaria patients, two are suffering from Plasmodium phalsiferum, Mahato added. — HNS
Pokhrel’s plea
BARDIBAS: Minister of Health and Population Girirajmani Pokhrel on Friday said all the people should be alert to keep the unity of the eight political parties intact for the success of the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections. He said this during his meeting with the local party cadres on Friday evening and urged them to pay their attention to the CA polls. Earlier, Pokharel said the civil servants should be active in CA polls at a programme in Jaleshwor. — RSS
Two held with arms
ITAHARI: Sarlahi District Administration Office arrested two persons allegedly possessing illegal arms at Malingawa. Rambali Roy, a local of Malingawa municipality-8 and Rameshwor Prasad Roy of ward number 10 were taken under control with weapons, police said, adding that they were held for action as they were creating terror among people by brandishing arms. Locals of Malangawa have been accusing the duo of allegedly murdering Arun Kumar Jayaswal, an employee of Malangawa municipality on Sunday. — RSS
Khadka’s call
Surkhet: A central committee member of the NC (D), Purna Bahadur Khadka, said here on Saturday that security situation should be improved to conduct constituent assembly polls in a free and fair manner. Khadka said it will be difficult to hold the constituent assembly elections if there is no improvement in security situation. — RSS
Prachanda’s visit
Kathmandu: The chairman of CPN-Maoist, Prachanda, on Saturday said his visit to Switzerland is a part of an attempt to improve his party’s image in the international arena. “We want to prove to the international community that we are not terrorists,” Prachanda told the reporters at TIA before flying to Switzerland on the invitation of the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation. Prachanda conceded that Switzerland had invited him when his party was still waging an armed conflict. “We had even sent some of our leaders there then,” he claimed. — HNS
APF posts for CA polls
BIRATNAGAR: Five Armed Police Force (APF) base camps and four border outposts will be set up in Morang district for the constituent assembly (CA) polls. Morang CDO Madhav Prasad Regmi has said the APF base camps will cover all the constituencies within the district. — HNS
Maoist kills self
BIRATNAGAR: Section commander Amrit Rai of the Maoist PLA in the Tandi-based camp of the Maoist army in Morang district shot himself with his rifle on Friday night. Rai, 21, a native of Olan village development committee-9 in Panchthar district, shot himself in the head.— HNS
