Ramechhap, July 15:

Members of 22 households have been displaced due to a landslide that occurred in Priti VDC, Ramechhap district, yesterday.Ten houses were swept away.

A local, Man Bahadur Khatri, said over phone that five houses collapsed in the landslide at Priti VDC-1’s Maidane. One house collapsed at Banchare of Priti VDC-1, while three and two houses collapsed in ward number 7 and 9. The landslide has displaced members of 22 households as of this afternoon, he said.

A 44-year-old displaced woman, Santamaya Magar, of Priti-7, told this daily over phone that all roads leading to the area have been blocked by the landslide and communication services hampered. Fulmaya Bishwokarma, of Priti-7, said the landslide had damaged her maize crop. She added that supplies of water, power and food were hampered. On Friday, a landslide caused displacement of 50 families from Kubhukasthali and Bamti.

Meanwhile, the death toll of persons killed in landslides at Gwalichaur and Jaljala VDCs of Baglung has reached 27. Injured Devi Thapa, 21, of Gwalichaur-1, died at the Pokhara-based Manipal Hospital died today. Locals found a body beside the bank of Kalimati River in Jaljala, while the six-year-old niece of Keshar Thapa was rescued alive from there. Police and army have been deployed for the rescue at Gwalichaur VDC-1. Five persons are still missing.

Govt to help landslip victims:

Kathmandu: Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula today said that the government will provide Rs 15,000 to family of each person killed in a landslide. He said the government will provide Rs 10,000 to each family whose house was swept away in a landslide.

“The government has been providing relief to families of the vicitims,” he said, informing the House about the havoc created by the landslides. Sitaula said the Home Ministry has been finding it difficult to provide relief materials due to the lack of a helicopter. He said the ministry has been providing relief materials by hiring helicopters from the army and private airlines.

Meanwhile, NC MP Mahesh Acharya urged the government to provide assistance to Radheshyam Adhikary, a lawmaker who was injured in a road accident in New Delhi on Saturday. — HNS
