Kathmandu, December 31:

CPN-UML leader Bamdev Gautam today opposed the demand of reinstatement of House of Representatives, saying restoring the House is a meaningless. Gautam said that restoration was not an “indispensable need” of the hour. Instead, declaration of ceasefire should be prioritised to hold dialogue with the Maoists with an active involvement of the UN. “UML is not in favour of restoring and continuing the House until the next elections are held,” he said but suggested consensus among the political forces to hook the country out of turmoil.

Nepali Congress (NC) leader Chakra Prasad Koirala, however, argued that since reinstatement of the House would “open doors” for resolving the politico-constitutional deadlock, this was “indispensable” in the present situation. Bastola’s maintained that revival of the House was not the end solution in itself, but it would help bring the constitution to the right track and give legitimacy to the constitutional processes. House revival, he argued, was the only way out when elections were not possible.
