Gharti advances

KATHMANDU: Raj Kumar Maharjan and Amar Gharti won preliminary round men’s 48kg bouts on the opening day of the 22nd Men’s and first Women’s Boxing Tournament in Pokhara on Thursday. Winners in the 51kg section include Gopal Adhikari, Jagat Shrestha, Dinesh Bajgami, Maniram Thapa, Amrit Mahara, Dipendra, Suman Lama and Bal Krishna

Maharjan. Roshan Bahadur Thapa, Puran Rai, Mahesh Lama, Subash Singh, Rajesh Kumal and Devendra Limbu also won their 54kg bouts.— HNS

Kathmandu: Valley Public School won the boys’ title while Greenland claimed the girl’s section trophy in the second Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Nishar Khatri scored 14 points as Valley Public defeated Young Hearts 56-48.Greenland avoided the Valley Public’s clean sweep beating the hosts 15-14. Sabina Shrestha netted eight points for Greenland while Merina KC scored four for Valley Public. — HNS
