Biratnagar, October 26:
Raghupati Jute Mill, which has the capacity of producing 50 tonnes of jute materials daily with around 3,000 workers, remained closed for today as well.
The Maoist-affiliated All Nepal Industrial Workers’ Association Unit Committee has padlocked the main gate of the Mill — that is in Biratnagar-12 and operated by Golchha Organisation —
and halted works since yesterday afternoon putting 12-point demands.
The Maoist Union’s demands include giving the workers permanent employment whoever has worked over 240 days in the factory, re-appointing the sacked Maoist workers, providing weekly off on Saturdays, providing facility of regular health check-up and bonus among others.
Of the total 3,000 workers, around 500 are affiliated to the Maoist union, according to the Mill sources. “However, the talks are underway,” sources said.
