Inter-school football

BHAKTAPUR: Madhyapur Youth Association (MYA), a football training centre, is organising the first Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament here from November 15 to 24. In all, 14 schools of Kathmandu Valley will take part in the knockout tournament, said former national skipper and MYA president Upendra Man Singh at a press meet today. The winner and the runner up will get Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The estimated cost of the tournament is Rs 350,000, said Singh. — HNS

Taekwondo qualifiers

KATHMANDU: Nepal Taekwondo Association has confirmed four players to participate in the Asia zone qualifying tournament for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Deepak Bista, Kumar Manandhar, Manita Shahi and Ayesha Shakya will participate in the qualifiers slated to begin from November 28 in Vietnam. The four players were among the 11-member that completed the six-month training in South Korea recently. Other seven members have already returned home last week. The selected players will also return home after the qualifiers before travelling to Korea again for the next phase of their training in January, the NTA said here on Wednesday. — HNS

NITF honours Teoh, Goh

KATHMANDU: Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (NITF) on Wednesday honoured the eighth DAN Malaysian Master Ally CH Teoh for his invaluable contribution to the NITF. “We are proud to felicitate him (Teoh) for his remarkable support to us since 2000,” said the NITF president Krishna Bahadur Balal at the function. Balal also thanked Teoh for conducting trainings to NITF players in Malaysia on several occasions. Teoh’s assistant Miranda Goh was also feted on the occasion. — HNS

Thokar wins gold medals

KATHMANDU: Chief instructor of Nepal Shotokan Karate Association Shanta Babu Thokar have won two gold medals at the Sujuki Cup Karate Tournament held in Texas on November 1-3. Thokar won gold medals in the above 35-years section kumite and kata events, said the association here on Wednesday. In all, 395 karatekas from different countries took part in the tournament. Thokar is in the United States for the last six months to undergo a special training. — HNS
