Bara, November 23:

The photo made public as Ram Ekwal Sahani as murder accused in Birendra Shah’s killing was not that of the real Ram Ekwal Sahani involved in the killing, it has been revealed.

There are three persons bearing the name Ram Ekwal Sahani at Pathara-8 of Bara. And the photo of Ram Ekwal Sahani that was made public does not belong to the Ram Ekwal involved in the killing, DSP Rana Bahadur Rayamajhi said. “As the address and names were same, it has now been revealed that the photo retrieved from the citizenship certificate record and provided to the Bara Chapter of FNJ is not that of the Ram Ekwal involved in the killing,” Rayamajhi said.

Instead of retrieving the photo of Ram Ekwal Sahani (25), the son of Raghubir Shani, the police mistakenly retrieved the photo of Ram Ekwal Sahani (26), the son of Raghunath Sahani.

The mistake occurred as the names, address and age were same, Rayamajhi said.

Photos of Lal Bahadur Chaudhari, Kundan Phaujdar, Hareram Patel and Ram Ekwal Sahani were made public for their involvement in the killing.

The police realised the mistake only after Ram Ekwal Sahani (26) complained to the police after finding his photo publicised as a murder accused. He also told the police that he is living in Punjab of India and he is neither a Maoist cadre.

Sahani, who visited the District Police Office today with much tension, was relieved after the police realised the mistake.

“It was a human error that led to the publicising of wrong photo,” vice-chairman of FNJ, Bara , Ramesh Subedi said.
