3 killed, 39 injured in mishaps

Pokhara, December 10:

Three person were killed and 39 injured in four separate road accidents in various parts of the country within the past 24 hours.

Two persons died when a truck knocked down the motorcycle they were riding on in Birauta of Kaski district this afternoon.

Buddha Gurung, 20, of Pokhara-13 died on the spot and Tenjing Yongden, 19, living in the Tibetan Camp of Chhorepatan died while he was being treated at Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara, sub-inspector Manoj Pandey of District Police Office said.

Truck driver Jit Bahadur Pun, 28, has been kept in District Police Office, Kaski, and the damaged truck has been seized.

The locals and the relatives of the victims obstructed the road and vandalised vehicles in some places of Pokhara city. Police had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and open the road. Agitators, demanding severe punishment to the truck driver, vandalised over half a dozen vehicles in Mahendrapul and Birauta. Relatives of the victims also warned of closing Pokhara city tomorrow.

Meanwhile, an aggressive group vandalised a jeep heading to Migling to receive copies of The Himalayan Times and Annapurna Post at 6 pm at Chipledhunga, said jeep driver Manoj Kaphle.

In Nawalparasi, 32-year-old Devendra Gharti of Dang Ghorahi-7 died when his motorbike collided with a truck parked on the road, according to Kawasoti area police office. Gharti died while undergoing treatment in Kawasoti yesterday.

In another accident, 24 passengers were injured when a night bus heading to Kathmandu from Dhangadhi met with an accident at Arunkhola in Nawalparasi, last night.

A report from Bara said 15 persons were hurt when a bus heading to Kathmandu from Birgunj and a truck collided at Rampur Tokani-3 in Birgunj-Pathlaiya road today.
