Cops arrest eight ‘criminals’ in Valley

Different teams from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) yesterday arrested four persons on the charge of involvement in crimes.

Police arrested Abahay Lama of Dhading and Gena Rai of Sunsari on the charge of swindling. SSP Upendra Kanta Aryal at the MPCD said an alleged swindler, Kancha Lama of Kapan, has been absconding.

Also yesterday, the MPCD arrested Gita Thapa of Dolakha, an employee of Visa Travel, while the latter was withdrawing money from the Machhapuchre bank by forging the signature of the managing director of the company. Police also seized from Thapa a chequebook of the bank and Rs 2,000.

Prakash Adhikari of Dhading was arrested yesterday on the charge of making fake driving licenses, school, college certificates and other government documents.

Police also seized an equipment used for producing the fake documents. One computer, fake government letter pads, seven fake passports, six citizenship certificates, seven licences and seven certificates were seized from him.

Holograms used to make the fake documents and false stamps of different government offices and organisations were also seized from him, police added.

Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Hanumandhoka, yesterday arrested four persons allegedly involved in different criminal activities in the Valley over the period of two years.

The police arrested Adiv and Binod alias Tolak Bahadur Tamang, 34, Biokash alias Sajan Tamang, 25, Akash aka Barsha Lama, 27, and Purusottam Bhandari, 34 in Kathmandu.

According to the police, four of them were involved in robbing Rs 2 million in cash from shop owned by Manoj Agarwal at Kuleshower on December 25 whereas accomplice Rijan Rate Tenzinf alias Gagan Singh is still absconding.

During preliminary investigation it was revealed that in December alone they were involved in looting cash and properties from four different places like robbing laptop and camera from a Nowergian diplomat at Sainbu, Lalitpur, looting Rs 450,000 from Sunmina Travels and Money Remit at Chapagaon and robbing golden jewellery from a house at Koteshwore and a shop at Baluwatar, the police said.

The police said, three of them were also found to be involved in looting property worth Rs 700,000 from Jorpati in March 2006.

The investigation also revealed that the four of them Adiv/Binod, Tenzing Lama, Gyan Bahadur Lama alias Gyanu and Dilip Lama were involved in murdering their friend Narayan Sharma in July 2006 by tying up in a motor bike and smothering to death at Chunikhel following dispute over sharing of looted cash and property. Sharma was involved in looting property from Jorpati in 2006.
