Extortionist succumbs to injuries

Birgunj, January 15:

Sadare Alam of Jitpur VDC-3 of Bara district, who was injured in a shootout yesterday died in Bir hospital this morning.

Alam was taken to Kathmandu after he sustained bullet injuries during a police operation, DSP Sauravjung Rana said. Police had fired three shots at Alam while trying foil an extortion bid by two persons at Chhapakaiya of Birgunj-3.

He was taken to Kathmandu last evening.

The police said Alam was the chief helper of Indian criminal Munna Sharma and was released from Birgunj prison six months ago.

The police also arrested Chhotelal Shah, 23, of Nijghad VDC-6. Shah and Alam had identified themselves as cadres of the JTMM and had come to Birgunj to collect a huge donation from Mohammad Samiullaha.
