Kathmandu, April 4:

Youths at Tinthana and Naikap VDCs said they are eagerly waiting for the April 10 — the election day of the constituent assembly — as they will be casting their votes for the first time. Both VDCs fall under Constituency No 9 of Kathmandu district.

The constitution to be written by the elected members to the CA should prioritise the issues of youths, they said. “I feel very lucky that my first vote will be to write a new constitution,” said Aroj Thapa, 19, resident of Tinthana-4.

“I am eagerly waiting for the morning of April 10, since I will be casting vote for the first time,” he said. He said the statute to be made by the CA should prioritise the education sector so that Nepali youths could get world-class education inside their country.

Another 22-year-old nursery entrepreneur also has a similar view. Sujendra Shrestha said the new statute must include main issues of the youths such as employment, education and others.

Expressing his desire to vote, Shrestha of New Naikap-3, suspected: “The CA also might become just like old wine in the new bottle as the political parties have fielded many old leaders in the election.”

Anita Shrestha, a marketing clerk of Anmol Saving and Credit Finance, said: “Though I was eligible to vote in the 1999 election, I was unable to cast my vote. But this time, I don’t want to miss the opportunity.” Long-lasting peace should be established in the country after the election, she said.

Upbeat with the election date drawing near, Arun Bhatta, 20, said: “I feel upbeat about casting my vote in the CA polls”, adding that the election would be a ceremony to celebrate if the politicians did not deceive people, otherwise it would be an accident.

“Neither the old generation got chance nor the coming new generation will get to cast their votes in this historic election,” said Manima Singh Thakuri of Dhunga Adda-8, saying that she is glad to get the opportunity to cast vote. The CA should solve the problem of unemployment as the educated youths are also without jobs besides the uneducated people, she added.
