Fire destroys house

BIRGUNJ: Fire broke out in a house at Sirsiya-9 in Birgunj early on Sunday morning, damaging property worth lakhs of rupees. The fire broke out in the house belonging to Bhikhar Raut at 1 am and was doused with the help of locals, fire engine and police at 2 am, police said. Gold jewellery, food and clothes worth Rs 2.5 lakhs were gutted. — HNS

Blasts in Birgunj

BIRGUNJ: Bombs exploded in several places in Birgunj on Saturday night. A bombs went off near Siddhartha Bank at Adarshanagar Chowk on Saturday evening, injuring Manoj Kumar of Birgunj-5, police said. Kumar returned home after undergoing treatment. Similarly, two bombs exploded in front of Sonalika Tractor’s showroom in Birgunj-9 and Ranighat on the same day. However, the explosions caused no damage, police said. — HNS

Property gutted

KAPILVASTU: Property worth lakhs of rupees was damaged when a fire destroyed 15 houses at Wards No 2 and 4 in Lalpur VDC in Kapilvastu on Saturday night. The fire that broke out in the house of Ramraj Gadhariya spread to other houses and destroyed property worth lakhs of rupees, the Krishnanagar area police office said. The details of the damage are yet to be ascertained, inspector Kamal Nepal said. The fire was doused with the help of a fire engine after four hours. — HNS

25 hurt in accident

SINDHUPALCHOWK: At least 25 persons were injured on Sunday when a bus heading to Kathmandu from Barhabise met with an accident in Suketar of Sangachowk VDC on Araniko Highway. Critically injured Nara Bahadur Basnet of Dolakha, Nandu Khadka of Sindhupalchowk and Binod Nepal are undergoing treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital and Binita Giri of Kadabas VDC was admitted to B & B Hospital, inspector at district police office, Dadhiram Neupane, said. Others are undergoing treatment in Dhulikhel. — HNS

Refugee killed

DAMAK: A Bhutanese refugee was killed when a gang attacked him on Saturday night. Police identified the killed youth as Dhan Singh Magar, 26, of Beldangi refugee camp’s Sector 2 in Damak. Magar’s body was found between Sector 2 and 3, police said. He was attacked with sharp weapons in neck and abdomen. — RSS

BAGLUNG: NC candidate Nara Bahadur Pun has been elected to the constituent assembly from Baglung Constituency No 3. He received 11,582 votes, while his nearest rival, Rastriya Janamorcha candidate Tek Bahadur Gharti, secured 9,051 votes. — HNS
