Charikot, April 29:
Chhongli Sherpa (64) who fought the April 10 CA polls from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party is now concerned about her studies, as she will have to repeat her class after she missed the final exam due to her involvement in the polls.
Sherpa, a fifth grader at Pashupati Kanya Mandir Secondary School at Dolakha and a mother of nine kids, had lost the polls from Constituency No 1.
Sherpa said she had contested the polls with a view to contributing to the formation of a new Nepal.
“Since I thought the polls were more important than my studies, I contested them. But while contesting the polls, I missed the final exam of Grade V and now I will have to repeat the class,” she said.
Still, she is determined to succeed in her studies even though she lost badly in the constituent assembly election.
She lost the security deposit after she failed to poll 10 per cent of the valid votes cast in her constituency. Of the 52,338 votes cast in the constituency, she polled just 468 votes.
“I am determined to pass SLC exam. Earlier, I used fingerprint for signature, but I am literate now.”
She said age can be no bar to education and she joined studies when she realised the importance of education even though the realisation came a little bit late.
She said though her dream to address women’s issues by being a part of constituent assembly was shattered, she would definitely contest the polls in the future too.
Sherpa had managed to visit 24 out of 28 village development committees under the constituency for poll campaign. Due to the lack of time, she could not visit the rest four VDCs.
She said voters had expressed sympathy for her during her campaign, as she was a woman
candidate.
But, they gave her just the sympathy, not the votes.
