LONDON: Sir Elton John is loaning his private collection of the work of a celebrated Cornish artist to a local museum. The singer has collected Henry Scott Tuke’s work since the 1980s. The artist is buried in Falmouth.

Bonhams is sponsoring the Catching the Light exhibition, taking place at the Royal Cornwall Museum (RCM) in Truro and the Falmouth Art Gallery. More than 130 works by Tuke

will go on show to mark the 150th anniversary of his bir-th, including 11 from Sir Elton.

“We are enormously grateful to Sir Elton John for lending us eleven of Henry Scott Tuke’s paintings from his private collection,” said RCM director Hilary Bracegirdle.

“Tuke was a major British artist and Catching the Light, which is being curated by local author and art expert Catherine Wallace.

Sir Elton’s collection includes works in oil, pastel and water-colour.

Other works by Tuke have been lent by the Royal Academy, Tate Britain and the National Portrait Gallery and the event is said to be the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of the artist’s work to date.
