Serving the poor
KATHMANDU: The International Women’s Sewing Group (IWSG), which has been providing around 1,000 to 2,000 items of clothes per year to poor and orphans in hospitals and to orphanages, will be celebrating its golden jubilee on Wednesday at the Teaching hospital. IWSG has been providing clothes for children, especially the newborn babies in TU’s Teaching Hospital and Kanti Children’s Hospital, as well as other hospitals as need dictates. The recipients are usually hospitals, orphanages, schools, halfway homes, homes for disabled and victims of natural disasters. IWSG receives funds from the former members and several organisations. The donors include Robert Rieffel, AWON, WNWO, the Himalayan Fair (USA), Lantern Project (USA) and others. — HNS
Held with drugs
KATHMANDU: Police team from the Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit, New Baneshwor, arrested an Indian national, Ambrabati Langam, 24, who hails from Manipur, with 750 gram of heroin on Monday, when she was trying to smuggle the narcotics through DHL Courier Pvt Ltd at Baneshwor, police said, adding that the girl had concealed the drugs inside the false covers of five books.— HNS
