CAN Infotech- 2005, the country’s largest information and communication technology (ICT) jamborie, is back again with latest developments and innovations observed during the year throughout the globe. The 11th edition of ICT show-cum-conference is all set to begin in the capital from Tuesday, at Birendra International Convention Centre. With a theme ‘Partnership for Progress,’ Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) is organising the event in cooperation with the ministry of science and technology, ministry of information and communications, High Level Commission for IT, Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (RONAST), Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and Nepal Telecom. The event will last till January 30.

The show aims at creating awareness on ICT and plans to boost IT business simultaneously. Speaking to The Himalayan Times, Biplav Man singh, president of CAN, said that the event will provide information on latest advancement in IT sector around the globe, accommodating advance products, software, latest development of hardware and many more. The wireless technology and IT-cum-entertainment which are bringing about a revolution in the IT sector will be in focus during the event. International companies from Taiwan, Sri Lanka and Singapore are also participating in the mega event, Singh said.

There will be 114 stalls of national and international participants and about 33 per cent will be related to IT education, Singh informed. New developments in cellular mobile phones, pen drive, wireless network, satellite phone and audio equipment, digital cameras with printer will be attractions of the event. CAN ICT conference 2005, part of the mega event, will be held on January 26-28. “The international conference will help build awareness and discuss practical aspects of ICT from both regional and national perspectives,” Singh said.

The ICT conference will also see papers by national and international experts on ICT and e-governance, local language computing, open source system, IT outsourcing and e-transactions and information security.

“CAN infotech that started with 34 stalls, 11 years ago, has now become the biggest IT show in the country. We are expecting more than 200,000 visitors to benefit from the event,” Singh informed. The CAN InfoTech-2004 had 167,000 visitors last year and over 100 participating exhibitors.
