Mahendranagar, May 23:

Central secretariat member of the CPN-Maoist Netra Bikram Chand “Biplab” today condemns the hullabaloo over the killing of Koteshwor businessman Ramhari Shrestha as a classic case of an attempt to politicise an event of an unfortunate nature.

He warned that the Maoists would not stay silent spectators for long if such attempts are

continued.

Talking to local mediapersons here, Chand said there was no need to lend political overtones to the incident as the main accused — Maoists’ People’s Liberation Army (PLA) brigade commander Jeevit — had already been handed over to the police for necessary investigation.

“Yes, this is a regrettable incident and those suspected of being behind it are already in police custody,” said Chand.

If attempts to politicise the incident continued the Maoists would not remain mute spectators, he said.

Chand said demands seeking dissolution of YCL was illogical and immoral.

Prachanda’s promise

Kathmandu: Maoist chairman Prachanda on Friday met civil society members and the family of Ramhari Shrestha, who was killed by Maoists on May 8, and promised to fulfill their demands. Victim’s family had demanded that Bibidh, the Maoist Third Division commander, be punished, sources said.

CA members Hitman Shakya, Jhakku Subedi and Khadka Bahadur BK were present during the talks. Ramhari’s elder brothers Shyam Kaji, Lila Kaji, civil society members Mahesh Basent and Mahesh Bikram Karki were attended the talks.

Meanwhile, Gyan Kumar Shrestha, coordinator of the struggle committee, said they will resume protests from Sunday if the Maoists failed to give in writing by Saturday that their demands will be met. — HNS
