Bodies of three siblings found in landslide debris

Jajarkot, August 4:

A team of army men, police personnel and locals found bodies of two sons and a daughter of Amrita Shahi in landslide debris this morning. The three were buried in landslide on Wednesday.

A team of army men, police personnel and locals had been searching the disaster-hit siblings for five days. The dead were identified as Raju (12), Pramod (9) and daughter Sapana (7). Relatives performed the last rites of the siblings after post mortem. Bodies of six persons, who had died in the landslide, were recovered earlier.

Amrita’s 20-year-old daughter Karuna Shahi, who was seriously injured in the landslide, has been undergoing undergoing treatment in the Nepalgunj-based Dipendra Police Hospital.

Meanwhile, a landslide has put 10 houses in peril in Kholagaun VDC of Rukum district. The houses are located in Bhalakcha, Bijayshwori and Laharesimal of Kholagaun VDC. Also in peril is seven ropani of arable land. “We are worried that the landslide might sweep away our houses and land,” Lal Biras Dangi said, adding that 10 houses in 10 villagers, including Khilli Raut, Prem Raut and Birkhe might be swept away. The victims have come to Khalanga, the district headquarters, in the hope of getting relief.

“The landslide has swept away all of our fertile land. We do not know how to eke out a living,” a victim, Prem Raut, said, adding,” We have been staying in the houses of relatives.” Rukum CDO Shiv Prasad Lamsal said attempts were underway to compensate the victims.
