Cops thrashed

BARA: Locals of Kachorba village thrashed two policemen on Sunday for failing to maintain law and order. A man had shot Rajesh Jaiswal of Kachorba-3 on Friday. Locals thrashed SI Badri Kumar Raya and constable Panilal and kept them in their custody. The two policemen were released after three hours. — HNS

Two dead

NUWAKOT: Dabasang Tamang, 35, and her son Bishal, 12, of Deurali VDC-8 in Nuwakot district died after they were swept away by a flooded Khahare river on Saturday, police said. They were swept away while returning home from a shop. — HNS

CHANDRANIGAHAPUR: VDC Secretaries’ Rights Protection Centre in Rautahat halted work in Bhrahmapuri VDC office on Sunday to protest the misbehaviour of VDC secretary Shankar Shah. Activists of seven political parties had misbehaved with Shah a week ago. — HNS

Dailekh: President of Federation of Nepali Journalists’ Dailekh chapter Bishnu Sharma was injured on Sunday in a brawl between police and parents of students, who were sitting for SLC exams at Tribhuvan Namuna Higher Secondary School, Dailekh. A brawl broke out between guardians and police when the latter tried to prevent them from helping examinees cheat. — HNS

Dysentery outbreak

Dipayal: Dysentery has been raging in two Dalit settlements in Mude village of Doti. A child Rekha Nepal died of dysentery on Sunday. Hundreds of Dalits have been suffering, locals said,
