Electricity supply in Lamki bazaar area of Kailali district has been disrupted after a falling tree damaged the power transmission tower near Lamki.
The 132 kv transmission tower was damaged when hit by a tree cut down by the department of forests in course of the felling carried out in the area by the department.
The damage has caused a power shortage and a virtual black-out in Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Surkhet and Dailekh districts as the 70 million units of cost free electricity supplied to Nepal from Tanakpur has also been disrupted as the Maoist terrorists had damaged another 132 kv transmission tower used in transmitting the power from Tanakpur grid in Rajipur area of Kailali district nearly two months ago.
It is learnt that Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is incurred a loss of Rs 1.6 million daily in revenue due to the damages.
At present, electricity purchased from Baharaich, India, has been supplied to those districts as an alternative measure, it is learnt from the NEA regional office Nepalgunj.
