Since Hari Bahadur Bista started vegetable farming in a small piece of land he had, he is living a comfortable life with his family and at the same time saving some extra money for rainy days. Some years back , he had never dreamt of living a decent life as he had no skills.
'I was able to grow vegetables worth around Rs 6000 last year,' says Bista. He adds that he has been cultivating vegetable on his four-ropani of land.
Bista has changed his jobs several times, went to India also to try his luck. But was never as happy as today.
The piece of land that he had never thought of enough for his family, is a constant source of income now.
'Vegetable farming is the only remedy for the farmers like me, who has no skills at hand. I am even able to save some money, ' adds Bista.
He says, 'I have wandered many places in India also searching for job and have done everything I could do. But my future was here in vegetable farming.'
When asked about the inspiration to turn to vegetable farming, he says, 'Since I had had a formal education, I never thought to be a farmer. I started this after I was disappointed from everywhere. I thought why not give a try to this at last and started the vegetable cultivation last year.'
Bista is an example of a successful farmer in a short span of time. He is mostly engaged in chilli farming and says that it is a good cash crop.
He says that there are majority of people like me who are wondering in search of jobs but the solution lies here at home.
“We can cultivate the cash crops and earn to live a comfortable life,” he says. Bista even encourages his neighbours.
