Pokhara, November 28:

Kamal Thapa and Bhim Tamang, who rescued Subin Gurung, a seventh grader at Mount Annapurna Higher Secondary School, were felicitated today.

Gurung had fallen in the Seti River gorge near Pokhara Stadium on Wednesday.

Mount Annapurna Higher Secondary School awarded them with Rs 10,000 and a letter of

appreciation each. Ananda Shrestha of the school management committee said the school had also decided to provide free education for the their children up to grade 10.

Likewise, Subin’s grandfather rewarded the duo with Rs 10,000 each while his maternal grandfather and his sister each awarded them with Rs 5,000 each. Subin’s classmates also rewarded Thapa and Tamang with Rs 500 each.

Kaski chapter of Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation, Nepal (PABSON) is providing them with Rs 5,000 each while the PABSON’s Central Office has declared to award them with Rs 2,500 each.

Thirteen-year-old Subin Gurung, who was participating in a competition organised by PABSON, had fallen into the 75-feet deep gorge while he had gone there to attend the nature’s call.

He was rescued from the gorge within 45 minutes by Thapa and Tamang with the help of

security personnel.
