Political meddling rife in police: IGP

Kathmandu, December 3:

Inspector General of Police Hem Bahadur Gurung has admitted to political intervention in the police force.

During an introductory programme with the media at the Police Headquarters, he said political intervention continued as usual though its actions were not influenced by political interests.

He, however, urged all concerned to cooperate in doing away with political intervention.

Insinuating at the Young Communist League of CPN-Maoist and the Youth Force of CPN-UML, he said the Nepal Police would not spare any criminal elements but would not assist in political vendatta.

IGP Gurung also released a 12-point policy and programmes for improving the security situation in the nation.

He added that the security would be beefed up in sensitive areas, including highways, besides

enhancing the communication system.
