Kathmandu, February 13:

Hosts Gyan Niketan School thrashed Innovative School 48-18 and booked a place in the quarter-finals while Trungram International Academy (TIA) beat BRL School 36-24 in senior boys’ section of the fourth Gyan Niketan Big Mimi Inter-school Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by Gyan Niketan School today.

Hikmat Kunwar of Gyan Niketan top-scored with 22 points whereas Niran netted 10 points for Innovative.

In the other match, Yubraj Thapa and Ashmin Shahi scored 10 points each in TIA’s victory. Also, Raju netted 10 points for BRL. On Monday, BRL will face Nirmal School in the decider, which if BRL wins, will top the chart and will advance to the round of last eight. The quarter-finals will begin from February 15.

KEC Running Trophy:

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Engineering College defeated hosts Kantipur Engineering College (KEC) ‘blue’ by one wicket in the first match of the Super League of the Kantipur Running Trophy Inter-technical College Cricket Tournament, at Laboratory School ground, today. In another league match, Kathmandu University (KU) beat Acme Engineering College by 43 runs to top Group B and book a place in the Super League of the event.

Batting first, KEC ‘blue’ scored 126 runs losing seven wickets in 35 overs. Gentle Bhagat top-scored with 23 off 44 balls, which included three boundaries and a six; whereas Deependra Dangol contributed 17 off 39 balls.

For KEC ‘blue’, Rocky Shrestha and Santosh Joshi took two wickets each.

In reply, Kathmandu Engineering College overcame the target in 27.5 overs losing nine wickets. Man of the match Rakshak Devkota top-scored with 40 off 46 balls. Devkota hit five fours and a six.

For Kathmandu Engineering College, Sandesh Maskey, Anurag Sharma and Imran Khan claimed four, three and two wickets respectively.

Earlier, KU were packed off for 147 runs in 22 overs. Sunil Shrestha scored 29 off 14 balls including a boundary and three sixes; and Suyas Pradhan contributed 25 runs with three fours.

For Acme, man of the match Saroj Basnet claimed five wickets whereas Deepak Pradhan and Robin Shrestha took a wicket apiece.

In reply, Acme failed to overcome the target and scored 104 runs losing six wickets. Roshan Shrestha top-scored with 22 off 35 balls Saroj Basnet scored 21 runs including three fours.

For KU, Deepak Sharma and Anuj Raut grabbed two wickets each.

On Monday, Kathmandu Engineering College will take on Kathmandu University at the same venue.
