Starvation in Mugu MUGU: Starvation looms large in the district as the production of crops saw a steep decline this year. According to District Agriculture Office, crop production declined by 50 per cent. Nepal government has been fulfiling the food demand through Nepal Food Corporation in the starvation-hit districts. Though the government was supposed to supply 12,400 quintal food in the district, only 9,400 quintal was supplied. Basudev Bhatta, NFC chief, Mugu, said 500 quintal food was required to meet the food demand in the district. — HNS

Child drowns PARASI: A four-year-old Achit Khadka died after falling in the Gandak canal at Sarawal in Nawalparasi on Sunday. He was rescued in an unconscious state and admitted to Prithivi Chandra Hospital. He died at the hospital while undergoing treatment. Khadka was playing near the canal when the incident occurred, police said. — HNS

Armed duo held BARA: Dipak Sapkota and Ramwal Chaudhari of Dumarwana VDC-8 were arrested with weapons on Saturday night.The District Police Office Bara informed that a home-made pistol with a round of bullet was seized from the duo. — HNS
