KATHMANDU: The talks held between the government and the agitating Nepal Backward Class Federation ended inconclusively on Saturday. Peace Minister Rakam Chemjong and the NBCF talks team led by Bharat Prasad Mahato held a dialogue for four hours, without making any headway. NBCF has called an indefinite Tarai bandh. Talking to this daily after the meeting, Mahato said their bandh would continue since the government had failed to meet their demands. Life in Tarai continues to suffer due to the bandh. “We are flexible but the government’s talks team doesn’t seem to be powerful enough to address our demands,” Mahato remarked. The talks will continue tomorrow. Their demands include formation of a council for the underprivileged people, reservation for them in the state organs, autonomous Madhes province and fair representation in the local bodies.
