LALITPUR:Makhan Chess Club inched closer to the title of the first National Club Team Rating Chess Championship with 14 points here today. They will play the final round on Sunday with a four-point lead over Kantipur Chess Club. Brothers Rajendra Prasad and Sujendra Prasad Shrestha won both their fifth and sixth round matches today to add Makhan four more points on the board. The duo helped Makkhan with an identical 2.5-1.5 win over Machhindra Club and Chetansil Samaj in the fifth and sixth rounds respectively. Rajendra defeated Bijendra Singh in the sixth round after outplaying Niraj Niraula in the fifth. Sujendra saw Shyam Shrestha and Sangha Ratna Bajracharya in the fifth and sixth rounds respectively. Punya Man Karmacharya lost both of his matches while Sajan Pandey drew his both. Kantipur Chess Club are in the second position with 10 points. Kantipur defeated Himalayan Sherpa 'A' 2.5-1.5 in the sixth after edging their 'B' team 3.5-1.5. After the sixth round, Friends and Nations Club and Far Western Region share the third position collecting eight points each.
