Dhital steals limelight with four golds on opening day

LALITPUR: Lincoln School made a dominant start in the 10th LA Inter-school Swimming Championships today with Shreya Dhital alone providing them four gold medals. In the above-15yrs girls’ events Dhital won three individual — 100m individual medley, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly — titles apart from 4x50m medley relay gold. Dhital timed 1 minute, 26.43 seconds to win the 100m individual medley. She earned her second gold finishing 50m breaststroke final in 43.97. Dhital bagged yet another 50m butterfly gold in 36.16. Dhital teamed up with Tara MacDonald, Madewr McPherson and Mimi Skeele to claim the 4x50m medley relay (2:39.06) in the girls open category. McDonald, Skeele and McPherson also handed Lincoln an individual gold medals. McDonald claimed the 50m breaststroke (girls’ 13-14yrs) in 44.35, Skeele clinched the 50m butterfly (girls’ 13-14yrs) in 39.66 and McPherson bagged the 50m butterfly (girls’ above-15yrs) gold medal in 32.19. Hosts Little Angels’ (LA) School are second behind Lincoln with five gold medals. Krishat Gurung (19.69) gave the hosts their first title in below-10yrs boys’ 25m breaststroke. Krita Shrestha timed 48.56 to win 50m breaststroke gold in the girls’ 11-12yrs category. Manish Chitrakar claimed the boys’ 11-12yrs 50m breaststroke in 42.00. Likewise, Dipen Rana led the top three finishes for the hosts in the U-10 boys’ 25m butterfly. Dipen won the event in 17.28. Ranjit Shrestha (46.68) won the fifth gold in boys’ 11-12yrs 50m butterfly. Kathmandu Valley Higher Secondary School also claimed four gold medals thanks to Sheila Devi Gurung and Jayant Prakash Gurung. Sheila claimed the U-10 girls’ 25m breaststroke gold in 21.71 before adding her second title in 25m butterfly (18.84). Jayanta won the boys’ 13-14yrs 50m breaststroke in 39.40 and 50m butterfly gold in 33.12. Baba Boarding was next to win three gold medals. Prakash Adhikari clinched the boys’ above-15yrs 100m individual medley gold and Banin Sensha Shrestha claimed the boys’ above-15yrs 50m breaststroke title. Banin, Prakash, Pravesh Adhikari and Sharan Sunuwar teamed up to win the 4x100m boys’ open medley relay gold in 2:19.65. Seung Hwi Seo gave Rupy’s International School the solitary gold in boys’ 11-12yrs 50m butterfly. In all, 382 swimmers from 34 schools from Kathmandu Valley are participating in the two-day tournament organised by Little Angels’ School in Hattiban.
