Biratnagar, April 13:
The Morang District Education Office (DEO) is planning to launch a special education campaign in 65 village development committees to increase children’s enrollment in schools, an official said.
According to Hira Prasad Dhakal, district education officer, 5,000 out of 17,000 children, who are not attending schools, will be motivated to enrol in schools this year. He said children above five years will be admitted to schools and the DEO will provide financial support. The programme will be run jointly by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the DEO.
Dhakal said a meeting of stakeholders was organised in Biratnagar yesterday in this regard.
Meanwhile, the DEO has issued a directive to private schools to follow curricula approved by the government. “Those who do not obey the directive will be punished,” said Dhakal.
Likewise, Nepali teachers have launched a campaign against appointment of non-Nepalis in private schools. “The DEO has issued a circular to the boarding schools to terminate the services of such teachers,” said Dhakal. “We have formed a committee to monitor directives. The DEO would take strong action against those who do not obey the directives.”
