KATHMANDU: Gauri Pradhan, Commissioner, National Human Rights Commission, today urged the implementation of the government declaration of schools as zone of peace.
Addressing a programme organised by Global Action Nepal (GAN), he called on protesters to keep children away from political activities. "They should think of their own children before organising any kind of protest," said Pradhan. As many as 40 children are participating in the three-day workshop.
Santosh Maharjan, GAN coordinator, hoped that the workshop would help develop leadership among the children. He added that children affiliated to several clubs were taking part in the programme.
Kaski, Makawanpur, Kathmandu and Lalitpur are part of the 'Model Children Parliament and Constitutional Assembly', held to make children aware of their rights.
He said recommendations were being collected from children to be submitted to Constitutional Committee Chairman Nilambar Acharya.
The document will also include provisions to be incorporated in the new statute to make it child friendly.
