KATHMANDU: Britain will press Nepal to guarantee freedom of religion in its new constitution, the Foreign Office has assured the Archbishop of York.
The UK government’s pledge comes amid a political crisis in Nepal with Maoists threatening to pull out of CPA, which ended the 10-year civil war. The news reports said Baroness Kinnock, Foreign Minister for Africa, the Caribbean, Central America and the UN responded to Dr John Sentamu’s question whether Britain would “encourage” Nepal to “honour its obligations under international human rights treaties by guaranteeing freedom of religion and belief, in their new constitution.”
