Bear tightens grip over Nepse again

KATHMANDU: Bearish trend is dominating the Nepali capital market since September and this week was no exception. Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index went down by 14.19 points this week — from December 11 to 17. The Nepse index dropped to 539.21 points on Thursday. Around 8,19,000 units of shares of 94 companies were traded on the Nepse floor through 7,500 transactions. The total volume of trade was Rs 369.55 million, 14.56 per cent more than last week’s Rs 332.57 million. Last week, around 5,61,900 units of shares were traded in 4,983 transactions. Major sectors like commercial banks, development banks, finance companies and hydropower lost this week. Hydropower was the biggest loser with a loss of 22.53 points followed by commercial banks (21.02 points) and development banks (8.52 points). There was no change in the manufacturing sector. The ‘others’ sector lost 10.57 points. Nepse sensitive index lost 3.51 points and the float index went down by 1.61 points between December 11 and 17. The float index dropped to 51.33 points. Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd topped in transaction amount (Rs 75.15 million) and unit shares (2,69,000) whereas Arun Valley Hydropower Company topped in number of transactions with 1,471. Shares of Nepal SBI Bank (Rs 40.79 million), Prime Commercial Bank (Rs 36.47 million), Standard Chartered Bank (Rs 26.18 million) and Vibhor Development Bank (Rs 21.84 million) were traded on the Nepse floor. Around 14,09,894 units of rights share of Bhrikuti Development Bank were listed with Nepse this week.
