ITAHARI: Protesting the unruly activities unleashed by the UCPN-Maoist cadres, Nepal Tarun Dal, youth wing of the Nepali Congress, today halted traffic in Itahari of Sunsari district for over an hour. The demonstrators said that they were miffed as the Maoists badly beat up Pushpa Parajuli, central general secretary of the Tarun Dal, and continued with their land grab campaign despite criticism from all quarters. The rally, participated by hundreds of the NC supporters, went around the eastern town, chanting slogans for an end to the anarchic activities of the Maoists and immediate return of the seized property. They also sought action against those involved in unlawful activities. Later, the rally converged into a mass meet. Addressing the function, Hemkarna Poudel, Sunsari district chairman of the Tarun Dal, threatened to retaliate if the Maoists continued the attacks on NC supporters. He also directed party cadres to raise voice against the anarchic activities of the Maoists. NC leader Phulraj Subedi said the Maoists were yet to shun their violent activities, even after signing the CPA. He too asked his subordinates to retaliate against the anarchic activities of the Maoists. Traffic along the East-West Highway went haywire due to the obstruction in the afternoon.
