Over 2,000 families to be resettled soon

Kathmandu, August 27

The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has started listing beneficiaries of vulnerable settlements in earthquake affected districts.  NRA has identified 2,361 households in 136 settlements in quake-hit districts that need to be resettled.

According to NRA, 60 settlements require to be resettled completely and the remaining need to be resettled partially. NRA has mobilised consultants at local level to facilitate resettlement process. It has identified partial and completely vulnerable settlements based on the consultants’ report.

NRA has initiated developing integrated settlements by relocating the vulnerable settlements in five districts. Kerauja of Gorkha; Selang of Sindhupalchowk; Khalte of Rasuwa; Urleni of Nuwakot and Bosimpa of Dolakha have been selected to be developed as model resettlements.

NRA will extend Rs 200,000 for land purchase on top of Rs 300,000 for the beneficiaries of the government aid, who are residing in the vulnerable settlements, to encourage them to relocate to safer places. The authority has instructed the concerned chief district officers to select the land for resettlement of those living in vulnerable settlements. The government will develop integrated settlement for those who do not want to relocate their house voluntarily from vulnerable places, according to NRA Spokesperson Yam Lal Bhoosal.

“NRA has expedited the resettlement of houses in most vulnerable settlements in first phase.”
