Another business daily in India

New Delhi, April 18:

One of India’s leading newspaper groups plans to enter the country’s crowded market for business news with the launch of a new business daily.

HT Media Limited, the company that publishes The Hindustan Times, India’s second biggest English language daily, plans to launch an English-language business daily newspaper and Web site, the company said in a press release.

“With the changing economic landscape in India there is an obvious place for a high-quality business daily,” said Rajiv Verma, CEO of HT Media Ltd. HT Media has appointed Raju Narisetti, currently the editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe and deputy managing editor of The Wall Street Journal, as editorial head of the new daily.

“This new venture will aim to meet the growing demand in that region for accurate and insightful business journalism - both in terms of covering Indian business, as well connecting the dots between India and the rest of the business world,” Narisetti said.

India, which is in the midst of an economic boom, also has a noisy free press, with more than 72 million newspapers sold in the country each day, making it the second largest market in the world.
