Bajura's Himali Rural Municipality opens rafting in Karnali River

BAJURA: Himali Rural Municipality of hilly Bajura district has started the operation of rafting in Karnali River targeting domestic and international tourists.

According to ward chair Gobindra Bahadur Malla, the Rural Municipality has started operating rafting from Dhulachaur to Piluchaur for the promotion of white-water tourism.

Himali RM in coordination with Rara Kailash Tour and Karnali Trail Nepal has been operating the rafting.

Chief Administrative Officer at Himali RM, Janak Bahadur Shahi said that the water adventure sports has been brought into operation to create employment and promote tourism in Karnali.

The rural municipality has invested a sum of Rs 950,000 in the fiscal year 2076/77 while Rs 1 million has been invested in the current fiscal year for the operation of rafting in the river.

Himali RM has set the standard to be followed in order to operate rafting sports daily. Ward chair Malla said a price rate will be fixed for rafting.

With the operation of rafting, the rural municipality has witnessed the flocking of both domestic and international tourists of late.

Civil society member Janesh Bhandari said plans have been made to set up hotels and lodges for water-sport enthusiasts and tourists. He said, "Rafting boats will be added with respect to the number of tourists."

The rafting spot is located between Khaptad and Rara Lake trail.
