Janakpur railway
JANAKPURDHAM: Ram Narayan Singh, minister for labour and transport management has said that government is planning to modernise Janakpur railway. He said that donor countries have shown interest in modernisation the Janakpur railway. The government is trying to remove obstacles in the survey work and steps are being initiated to hold talks with India regarding expansion of Janakpur railway. Singh reiterated that the government has given top priority to railway service in its expansion plan. — RSS
Silver confiscated
BIRGUNJ: Police have found a big haul of silver concealed in a tanker carrying air turbine fuel. The silver is reported to have been smuggled into Nepal from Raxaul. The silver weighing about 30 kg 800 grams was recovered from the tanker as the police checked the tanker Na 1 Kha 9517 near in the Bypass Road yesterday. The silver is said to be worth about Rs 558,398. Anil Puri, the tanker driver of Sugauli of India, Santosh Patel of Aadapur Bhediyaari and Dinesh Kumar Shah of Parwanipur-2 have been arrested. As gold and silver are becoming cheap in India, a large amount of them are being increasingly smuggled into Nepal. — RSS
Oil prices above $61
SINGAPORE: Crude oil prices rose as traders assessed the economic impact of the bomb blasts in London and possible supply disruptions at refineries in the Gulf of Mexico as Hurricane Dennis lashed Haiti and bore down on the US coast. In mid-afternoon trading in Singapore, light, sweet crude for August delivery was up 46 cents to $61.19 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. —AP
