Parbat coffee farmers are affluent exporters

PARBAT: Coffee farmers in Parbat district have started exporting their produce to big cities abroad within a short period of starting coffee cultivation. Eight tonnes of dry parchment coffee were exported to various cities abroad from Parbat district this year. Also, 40 tonnes of fresh cherry coffee were exported, according to Coffee Traders’ Association, Parbat. Four tonnes of dry parchment coffee were exported from the district last year. According to the Association, the coffee produced in the district is exported to Japan, the US and other countries by Kathmandu-based export firms Coffee Lapantek and Everest Coffee Company. The coffee farmers made an income of Rs. 1,584,000 this year from export of coffee. Some 1,950 farmers are engaged in coffee cultivation in the district which has 24 coffee processing machines.
