NBL Remit begins

KATHMANDU: Nepal Bank Ltd (NBL) has started remittance service ‘NBL Remit’. In the first round of its implementation, the service will be operated from 44 of the bank’s 97 branches in the country. The service can be availed from Gulf countries of Qatar, UAE, and Saudi Arabia and later from Malaysia, Korea, Israel and the main cities of other countries, according to a press release. — HNS

iPhone hacking

SAN JOSE: iPhone owners, who have unlocked their handsets so they could use carriers other than AT&T Inc may end up with a phone that does not work after the company’s next software update. Since the iPhone debuted in June, hackers have posted a number of methods online to make it possible to use the iPhone on cellular networks other than AT&T, which is the exclusive official carrier for the iPhone. — AP

Strategy for poor

WASHINGTON: IMF and World Bank are developing a joint strategy to aid low-income countries that will define their separate roles. The Fund’s role in low-income countries, which has drawn controversy in recent years, will be formalised in a Joint Bank-Fund Management Action Plan. — AFP
