Wipro’s robust growth
BANGALORE: Riding against a rising rupee, IT bellwether Wipro Ltd Friday reported a robust growth in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2006-07 and has projected revenue estimate of $711 million (Rs 30.64 billion) from its global IT services business for the first quarter (April-June) of 2007-08. Posting 39 per cent net income at Rs 8.56 billion) and top-line of Rs 43.33 billion during the last quarter (January-March), Wipro weathered a weakening dollar to register a whopping 42 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth in net profit at Rs 29.4 billion.—HNS
Indian inflation rises
NEW DELHI: Indian inflation crossed six per cent again amid warnings Asia’s fourth-largest economy, which has been growing by around nine per cent, is overheating, according to data released Friday. Inflation reached 6.09 per cent in the first week of the current fiscal year beginning April 1 against 5.74 per cent the previous week, the finance ministry said. RBI has been tightening monetary policy steadily since late 2004 with the bank to meet next on April 24.—AFP
Siemens chief quits
MUNICH: Siemens AG supervisory board chairman Heinrich von Pierer has resigned amid corruption scandals plaguing the industrial electronics giant, including alleged slush funds used for bribery to secure overseas contracts. Gerhard Cromme is to replace him at a board meeting next week. von Pierer, 66, who had been one of the most respected business managers in Germany and is an adviser to Chancellor Angela Merkel, denied personal involvement in the corruption scandal late Thursday.—DPA
