German assistance

KATHMANDU: Germany has expressed its commitments to assist Nepal in its endeavours for social economic development of the country in the best possible ways. Germany made commitments in course of consultations on the Nepal-Germany development co-operation held at the Ministry of Finance today. During consultations, head of the German delegation, Wolfgang Kanera, said that his country is keen to support and extend its cooperation Nepal’’s endeavours for socio-economic transformation in its best possible ways.—RSS

Rural e-learning kiosks

NEW DELHI: More than 5,000 kiosks to impart computer literacy will come up in villages across the country by the end of 2007. Shakeel Ahmad, minister of state for communications and information technology, said on Tuesday that the project would cost about Rs 30 billion. “By the end of 2007 we will set up more than 5,000 kiosks in villages and invest Rs 30 billion on it,” Ahmad said at the India Economic Summit here. “These kiosks will be set up in local panchayats for training villagers on information communications technology. The kiosks are expected to bring the villages the advantage of leapfrogging, particularly in terms of technological inputs needed for rural development. –HNS
