Business representing bodies asked to get their members registered at SSF

Kathmandu, November 1

The Social Security Fund (SSF) has asked the representing bodies of different businesses to ensure that firms under them are registered at the SSF as soon as possible.

The SSF has written letters to the umbrella bodies of different businesses to ensure that their members are registered at the SSF after a vast majority of firms failed to register themselves with the fund within the given deadline of October 23. As a result, the government has already extended the deadline for firms to register their details and that of their employees at the SSF to November 26.

“Basically those firms that are either not paying minimum wage to their employees or giving too high salaries are seen unwilling to register under SSF,” said Kapil Mani Gyawali, executive director of SSF.

As per him, though almost 9,000 firms have registered at SSF so far, many small firms as well as big corporate houses are yet to register themselves.

SSF has asked business representing bodies like Nepal Bankers’ Association, Hotel Association Nepal, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Private and Boarding Schools’ Association of Nepal and Higher Institutions and Secondary School’s Association of Nepal, among others, to ensure their members are registered with SSF within the extended deadline.

In case firms fail to register at SSF within November 26, Gyawali said that the government will take necessary action based on the law.
