CAAN nod to buy new aircraft

Kathmandu, January 9:

An appropriate plane for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) will be purchased with the help of the amount that comes in lieu of the old aircraft’s insurance.

A decision to this effect was made during the a meeting of CAAN chaired by Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hisila Yami here today, according to a CAAN statement. A sub-committee, led by undersecretary of the ministry Nagendra Prasad Ghimire, has been formed to identify the plane suitable for Nepal’s geography and forward suggestions with a report along with a plan on running and managing the plane within a month. Fhuwa Chiring Sherpa, chartered accountant Tek Nath Acharya and CAAN’s place operation department director Binod Kumar Gautam are the members of the committee. The old Twin Otter, run by the then Department of Aviation, had crashed during a flight on the Jomsom-Pokhara route back in 1998.
