CBS to conduct survey of real estate sector

Kathmandu, April 23

The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) is preparing to conduct a ‘real estate survey’ for the first time in the country in a bid to trace the real picture of the sector and its contribution to the national economy.

Suman Raj Aryal, director general of CBS, informed that the bureau plans to begin the survey from the beginning of next fiscal. “The survey intends to bring out the real picture of the land and housing sector in Nepal, which will provide a guideline for policymakers while forming new policies in the sector,” he informed.

CBS officials said that the outcome of the real estate survey will also be crucial to trace the role and impact of real estate sector in the national economy.

The survey, as per CBS, will basically collect the number of employment opportunities that the sector has been giving, the impact (positive and negative) that the sector has been making in the gross domestic product (GDP) and the volume of land and housing transactions made every year, among others.

As part of the survey, CBS said that it will collect necessary details from different registered agencies involved in the land and housing business in the country.

Along with tracing the role of the sector in the economy, the outcome of the real estate survey is also expected to be a crucial guide for the government to manage scientific human settlements and land.
