Chidambaram to present 5th budget
NEW DELHI: It will be a tightrope walk for P Chidambarm on Tuesday when he seeks to hike outlays for infrastructure and rural development while reining in the deficits in his budget for fiscal 2006-07. Experts say that the overall thrust of the annual fiscal package of the Left-backed UPA government will be giving a further push to the economy and improving the living conditions of the millions of India’s poor. This will be Chidambaram’s third budget for the Manmohan Singh government that will be presented in the lower house of Parliament on Tuesday. He had presented two budgets for the United Front government during 1996-98. — HNS
