Chennai, April 23:

Coca-Cola is facing opposition to a bottling plant it is setting up in southern Tamil Nadu.

Locals and Left parties opposing Coke’s South India Bottling Company in Tirunelveli district, about 700 km from here, say the company will draw up large sources of precious drinking water. The bottling company has been given the Coke formula for manufacturing the soft drink and allowed to draw 500,000 litres of water every day from the Tamraparani river for its 32-acre plant. The Coca-Cola plant is being built in the State Industrial Promotion Corporation of Tamilnadu industrial park.
