'Efficient management of financial needed'

The Development Aid Coordination and Facilitation Committee at the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has decided to mobilise financial resources by preparing a work procedure of the committee.

The first meeting of the recently-formed committee held today decided to accelerate the post-quake reconstruction activities by calling on a bi-monthly meeting, according to NRA Spokesperson Ram Prasad Thapaliya.

In the meeting, NRA Chief Executive Officer and Committee Coordinator Sushil Gyewali briefed about the progress and the challenges facing the reconstruction drive. The participants of the meeting offered various suggestions for the mobilisation, coordination and facilitation of the foreign aid for the drive.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Indian Embassy, and of Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Nepal-based chiefs of the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, representatives from the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries, NGO Federation, INGO Federation and high-level officials from Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Auditor General, the National Planning Commission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

All the attendants expressed hope that funds coming in from abroad for the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts would be used effectively and in a transparent manner.

Out of the total donations pledged at the International Conference on Nepal’s Reconstruction following the quake, agreements to provide approximately Rs 278 billion for the reconstruction have been signed so far between the government and various donor agencies.
